My Felicity is old and after years of play, her hair needs some serious help. It is very frizzy and tangled. I read the whole downy process and saw the pictures. I was just wondering if anyone has done that? It worries me to use so much water.....

Wow, that Downy treatment looks like just what our Josefina needs!! I had never heard of this before, but I am going to try it. Couple of questions....

What kinds of shampoo and conditioner are acceptable to use? Looks like you used Real Beauty products -- what else can you use? (I thought you were never supposed to use shampoo on them -- I read one website that said you are supposed to use Windex or Fantastic!)

Do you rinse the Downy out before you steam?

How exactly do you "steam" the hair?

You have to be careful to keep water from getting into their eyes, right?

Yes, you need to be careful not to get the eyes wet.

Just about anything. I've used Scruples Clarifying shampoo, Suave... whatever is in my shower rack at the time I need it.

Yes, thoroughly rinse with warm/hot (but not boiling) water and when you're sure the water is running clear, rinse for another 60 seconds or so. You can also shampoo and condition again after the dunk to rinse the Downy.

You can use a steamer. I use a flar iron on a very low temperature on the wet hair.

Do not use a steamer that has any metal parts!!! It ruins hair!!

I have used a hair straightener instead of a steamer, but only on the very lowest setting, and I never hold it in one place!!

I used Pantene on mine, and it worked fine. I actually didn't even need to use the downey after using pantene. It was all soft and calmed down. After the straightening it was smooth too.

also, don't focus too much water and stuff on the "scalp" if it isn't necessary. it can loosen the wig. For example, i gently poured water over that area with a cup insead of putting it under running water.

also: MAKE SURE YOU DON'T GET THE CLOTH BODY OR EYES WET!!!! I cover these areas up before i even start. I have seen dolls ruined by rusty eyes and ruined cloth bodies!!
